Should You Get a Movie Membership?

If you are a movie go-er, you have probably heard about the AMC A-List Membership. What it is, is a membership pass that allows you to go to up to 3 movies a week among a variety of other perks. If there is any time to convince you to sign up, it is now.

The month of April had amazing movies come out and can be the best case study to convince you on the pass. Monkey Man, Civil War, and The Challengers all come out in the same month. Each of these movies have their own anticipated hype for why you need to see them. More importantly, though, all are only available in theaters.

The pass is $25/month, but it is important to note that an IMAX movie ticket is $26. If you see one movie a month you can get your money’s worth. For the one time price, you can see a total of 12 movies a month – and trust me after seeing Challengers, you’re not going to need to be forced into seeing it a second or third time.

I will admit, part of my love for my membership is the fact that I am over streaming services. If I paid for every streaming platform’s membership, the cost would be comparable to cable tv. Even then I wouldn’t be able to see all of the exclusive-releases.

One thing that streaming services can’t quite replicate is the sense of community within a theatre. The experience of heart-break or triumph is made more fun by others. I recently went to see Babes and the woman a few seats down had an electric laugh. I could tell how hilarious she thought the film was and every time she fell out of her seat laughing from a punchline, it made the joke land a little better for the whole theatre.

So if you think you can find one movie a month that piques your interest, give an AMC pass a test drive. You may find your spark for movies reignited by the power of the cinema.
