My August Reading Lineup

I’ve done my monthly Barnes and Noble run and I am here to share what is on my August reading line-up! The two books I have chosen have gotten great reviews and they should both be relatively quick reads.

If you saw last month's book line-up you may be thinking that this month’s is one book shorter. First, I want to say, good catch. But, second, I will admit that I didn’t fully finish my final book from last month. Unlike July, August should not be as busy of a month, but I still want to set myself up for success in finishing my reading list. In September I have travel plans and am sure to need more books for when I am 35,000 feet in the air. Hang tight and more book recommendations will be coming to future months lineups!

Current Read Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter

Another mystery in the reading lineup means one thing … it’s the book club book of the month!

The books we were deciding between this month were: Pretty Girls, Severance and Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. Any of these would have been a winner and I’m sure I will read the other two at a later time.

After my first book club, I would say that reading with a group not only helps me stay on top of finishing the book, but also gives me great recommendations for future books. If you are considering starting a book club, I would highly recommend a mystery novel. When we met and walked through the book, the twists and turns of the plot helped to guide the conversation and were relatively entertaining to talk about.

Upcoming Read My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh

After seeing the New York Times Best Books of the Century list, I decided that the books that I have long considered should finally be read. I am excited for this book because I am going in blind and am anticipating it to be a quick read since it comes in at a little under 300 pages.

The book explores why the main character, despite having everything she may ask for, still can’t find happiness. I’m excited to see how the book explores this topic since this seems to be something many of us – especially those of us in our 20’s – deal with. However, our heroine decides to overcome this sense of emptiness, I’m sure that there will be reflective moments for readers to consider.
