My July Reading Lineup

As I previously wrote, I have been in a bit of a reading rut. However, as I get back into reading this summer, I wanted to share some of the upcoming books that I am going to be reading. Having my next book decided not only gets me excited about what is next in my line-up, but also helps me avoid the long waiting time in between finishing and starting the next book. Rather than avoiding reading because I don’t know what book to tackle next, I already know what to look forward to.

Add these to your summer list, or read them alongside me and let me know your thoughts!

Currently Reading Less by Andrew Sean Greer

Less has been on my reading list for–dare I say–years. Now that I have started it I am realizing I should have buckled down and read it a lot sooner. From where I currently am, the book reminds me a lot of Eat, Pray, Love. After his casual soulmate moves on and gets engaged to someone else, Arthur Less decides to be out of town for the wedding and go on an around the world journey. However, everywhere he goes he brings with himself the same habits and messiness that he was trying to escape.

It is a realistic version of the imagined life we all fantasize that would happen if we ran away from our current problems and life. I can’t wait to see how Arthur’s story ends and I have a feeling this will be a book I think back on often.

Upcoming Read On a Quiet Street by Seraphina Nova Glass

This book is going to be my first book as a part of a book club! What better genre for a group of gals than thriller?

I am a true crime and mystery fan when it comes to tv and movies and have recently gotten into similar themes in my books. The first book I read to break into the genre I was loving, until it took a mystical turn. The book went from Criminal Minds to Harry Potter over the course of a chapter and I decided that I have not yet found the right thriller book. On a Quiet Street has been recommended to me before and I am excited to see if this is the type of thriller that I am looking for. If it is, then you may be seeing similar books being recommended on Mindlessly Marissa!

Upcoming Read How to Be Perfect by Michael Schur

When walking around Barnes and Noble, I stumbled across this book and decided it seemed like something I needed to read. The premise of the book is a satirical answer to every one of life’s problems. For additional context, Michael Schur is the creator of The Good Place. I’m looking forward to the same wit from the show in the book.

This book should be a fun way to see the ridiculousness in trying to always have the right answer or do things in the correct way. There is no “correct” way to live and I can’t wait to crack into this book to hear more about Schur’s thoughts.
