Your Skincare Should Also Change With the Seasons

When the seasons change, so does so much else; acai bowls turn into soup bowls and long walks by the beach turn into long movie marathons. But, if there is one thing that is in style all year round, it is clear skin.

So, how can I sustain (somewhat) clear-skin year round?

My skin is combination, acne-prone, and most importantly, OILY. Needless to say, when the weather changes even slightly, I can feel it in my skin.

Hydration is always key in achieving the plump and smooth texture that is key to bright skin. However, since I have oily skin, in the summer too much hydration can leave my face shinier–and more slippery–than a reflecting pool.

One product in particular that is far too much in the summer is the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. I originally bought this product thinking it would replace all my moisturizers and become an all-in-one product. Using it was a different scenario, though. Between my makeup and my glasses, nothing stood a chance of staying on my face with how oily it made my skin.

With the rave reviews of the product, I figured I shouldn’t return it or throw it in the bin and instead keep it in the back of my medicine cabinet. As soon as winter came around, I knew it was right to have kept the product.

As I am sure many of us get, the corners around my nose and lips start to get red with the cold and wind. This moisturizer that was once too much was the perfect product to save these trouble spots.

My normal Kiehls Moisturizer is absorbent with a light finish that makes it great for warmer weather. As much as I love it, packing on more layers to combat winter dryness can sometimes have the opposite effect. When I add too much product I either clog my pores or risk not having totally clean skin.

Sometimes it isn’t that a product isn’t good, it’s that it isn’t what your skin needs at that exact moment. The same way you change your clothes to accommodate for the weather, consider changing your skincare routine to accommodate for the season!
